Kerstin Falls Ill
A tenant who rented a ground-level room in the home complained of hearing sounds in the basement. Josef waved him off, saying that these was from the gas furnace because of its age. Meanwhile, inside the cellar, the situation for Elisabeth’s children were from horrible to dire as Kerstin, 19, collapsed. She was deathly ill, and Elisabeth pleaded to Josef to get her to the hospital. He agreed. Before he let her go, however, he made Elisabeth write a letter pleading to the hospital to take care of her child.
