In a coma, he watched the world go by
Pistorius, recounting his experience for the Daily Mail, wrote “I lay like an empty shell, unaware of anything around me. Then, one day, I started coming back to life. My mind began to awaken at about the age of 16,” he said. “By 19 it was fully intact, I knew who I was and where I was, and understood I’d been robbed of a real life. I was completely entombed.”
This nightmare scenario had Pistorius trapped inside his body, with total awareness of everything around him, but with no ability to communicate. Pistorius could not say anything, or make any gestures, to signal to his family that he knew what was happening. Pistorius felt like he was invisible.
