Cosplay is a modern art form, practiced by fans around the world. It involves dressing up as one’s favorite character. The results are often stunning. But it’s not just the young folks who are into cosplay. Moms and dads are also getting in on the act. The amazing Solange from Manaus, Brazil, takes cosplay to a new level, and she’s a mom!

Solange’s nickname is Tia Sol, which means Aunty Sun. She buys the pieces she needs for her costumes online, and she sews and constructs her costumes by herself. She explained to BuzzFeed that she started doing it on a dare. “A friend said that I wouldn’t have the guts. I chose a character and had the costume made without saying another word.”

Tia Sol’s appearances quickly won her fans all around the world. Despite her internet fame, which is global, she prefers to do her thing in her own backyard. “I don’t miss a single event in my city. I’d really like to visit other ones, but have you seen the price of the fares?”

Aunty’s favorite cosplay efforts include the time she dressed as Yubaba from Spirited Away and Muriel from Courage the Cowardly Dog. She is surprised by her big following, commenting that “I never thought that I would be well received among the young people, I’ve made a lot of friends during all of this.”

Like many cosplayers before her, Tia Sol loves the opportunity to enter another reality that cosplay provides: “I can launch myself into the world of make-believe, where anything goes.”
